2025

We are excited to announce that we have awarded a $5,000 research scholarship to Brooke Jacobs! 🤩 Brooke is a conservation researcher whose work focuses on the expanding use of nonlethal tools in wolf-livestock conflict mitigation and on policies protecting endangered species. 🐺 Drawing on her roots in California’s ranching community, she works to bridge understanding between ranchers and wolf advocates. 🐄 Brooke holds a B.S. in Environmental Science from UCLA and is a student in UC Berkeley’s Master of Information and Data Science program, where she plans to apply advanced analytics to wolf conservation challenges – particularly in California’s rapidly expanding wolf range.
We are thrilled to support Brooke in her ongoing educational journey and optimistic for the innovations her work will bring to the challenges faced by rural
communities on California’s working lands. Please join us in congratulating Brooke!

The California Wolf Foundation in partnership with Women for Wolves selected Christina Winters as the winner of our 2025 Women in Wolf Conservation $5,000 scholarship. Christina is a wildlife biologist and Masters student studying wolf ecology and conservation on working lands in California in the Middleton and Brashares lab at UC Berkeley. Prior to joining UC Berkeley, Christina worked with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife on large carnivores and mesocarnivores since 2021, and was engaged on a wide range of projects around the state. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Gonzaga University, and gained a wide range of experience as a whitewater raft guide, camera trapping for jaguars in Belize and Panama, and studying fisher movement in California. Christina is a part of the California Wolf Project and we are honored to play a small part in supporting this crucial research by providing this scholarship. Congratulations Christina!
2024

Our 2024 Research Grant recipient was Vishal Subramanyan. Vishal is an award-winning wildlife photographer and now recent graduate from the University of California, Berkeley known for his stunning images of California nature—from elusive bobcats to rare badgers. Using camera traps, telephoto lenses, and other photography techniques, he captures unique imagery that raises awareness about conservation and inspires action. With an academic background in ecology, Subramanyan integrates science into his storytelling efforts to create deeply compelling stories. Vishal has been taking part in a collaborative new effort to capture some of the first ever high-quality photos of California’s newly established wolf packs. This camera trap work will support research aimed at learning more about wolves in California and their role on the landscape.
If you would like to support future projects like this, please consider donating to the California Wolf Foundation research and scholarship fund.
